Cleaning Up After an Unattended Death Telford | Wolverhampton | Shrewsbury - How much?
Updated: 6 days ago
When a death takes place the natural process of decomposition and breakdown begins very quickly and potentially harmful bacteria are released through various areas. Bacteria are responsible for the odour of body decomposition and will spread rapidly infecting as it proceeds.
When contemplating whether to clean yourself it is worth bearing in mind that:
Porous materials which include wood, carpet, drywall, or concrete, will absorb body fluids. As a result, you should never attempt to clean porous materials.
A bioremediation company can properly dispose of these items for you.
Decomposition can attract wildlife including the breeding of insects which in turn can spread bacteria and germs throughout the property and beyond into other areas of the property.
There is always potential to come in contact with bloodborne pathogens.
While decomposition is perfectly normal, traditional home cleaning solutions are not sufficient to safely clean, sanitize and disinfect areas affected by human decomposition - see our international disinfection standards post.
Even the smallest amount of biological material left untreated can make a residence unsafe to inhabit and dangerous to sell.

What Happens After a Death at Home
When someone dies at home and is not found straight away, or when a death involves blood loss, the room is left contaminated in ways that are not always visible. Bodily fluids soak into carpets, underlay, mattresses and sometimes floorboards. Odour travels through the property, and bacteria can remain on surfaces long after the visible marks have gone. A family should not have to deal with any of this. The specialist team removes contaminated materials safely, cleans the affected areas, and then treats the air and surfaces with NHS-validated technology that has an up to 99.9999% kill rate against over 260 pathogens.
The Order of Work
The property is released by the police or coroner, and the family, landlord or solicitor contacts the team.
A free assessment is carried out and a written quote is agreed.
Personal items and keepsakes are protected or set aside before any work starts.
Contaminated furniture, flooring and materials are removed and disposed of as clinical waste.
Affected surfaces are cleaned, and the air and rooms are disinfected.
The family or landlord receives photographs and a written treatment record.
Working Across Shropshire and the West Midlands
From its base in Madeley, Telford, the team covers Telford and Wrekin, Shrewsbury and the Shropshire market towns, including Newport, Shifnal, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Whitchurch, Wem and Oswestry. It also works across Wolverhampton, Dudley and the wider West Midlands. Rural jobs are planned around access, parking and distance, so a village property gets the same response as a town-centre flat.
