Did You Know? The Telford Cleaning Company That Quietly Cleaned NHS Workers' Homes for Free

Most people know Shropshire Expert Cleaners LTD for the work it does when something has gone wrong: trauma and after-death cleaning, biohazard removal, mould remediation and sensitive house clearances across Telford, Shrewsbury and the wider county. Fewer people know about the work the company has done for nothing, and why giving back has become part of how the business runs.

In short: During Covid, Shropshire Expert Cleaners carried out free home decontamination for frontline NHS workers while they were at work, leaving a card and chocolates to say thank you. Since 2022, the company has given just over £30,000 of donations in items and services. It is a specialist-only company and does not offer regular, standard, one-off or standard end-of-tenancy cleaning.

A Thank You to Frontline NHS Workers

When Covid reached Shropshire, NHS staff were working long shifts in hospitals, care settings and the community, and many were worried about bringing the virus home to their families. The team at Shropshire Expert Cleaners, based on the High Street in Madeley, Telford, already worked with disinfection technology validated for NHS use. They wanted to do something practical to help.

Frontline NHS workers booked a home decontamination in the usual way and agreed a price, just like any other customer. While they were at work, the team went into their homes and decontaminated them to make them Covid-safe. When the NHS worker got home, they found a box of chocolates and a card. The card explained that the job was free and thanked them for their service.

There was no announcement and no social media campaign at the time. The point was simply to say thank you to people who were giving so much.

The Staff Were Still Paid

One detail matters to the company's directors. The staff who carried out those free jobs were still paid for their time. The cost of saying thank you was carried by the business, not by the cleaners doing the work. It was a decision about fairness as much as generosity: the team was working hard through a difficult period too.

Just Over £30,000 Given Back Since 2022

The NHS work was not a one-off. Since 2022, Shropshire Expert Cleaners has given just over £30,000 of donations in items and services.

Much of that comes from the company's house clearance work. When a home is cleared, furniture, household goods and other items that are clean, safe and still useful are sorted for donation rather than sent to landfill. That means a family clearing a parent's home in Telford or Shrewsbury can know that some of those belongings will help someone else. The bereavement house clearances guide explains how that process is handled with care.

The rest comes from services given free of charge where the team felt it was the right thing to do.

Why a Specialist Cleaning Company Cares About Community

Specialist cleaning is work that happens on some of the worst days of people's lives. The team is called after a death at home, after a suicide or violent incident, when a relative's home has become unsafe through hoarding, or when a family is living with mould. Doing that work every day gives a clear view of how much difference kindness makes.

That is why the company's approach is built around discretion, patience and respect, whether the job is trauma and after-death cleaning, mould removal or a hoarder clearance. Giving back is the same values applied outside paid work.
