Dry fog or a wet fogger

Updated: 6 days ago

A dry fog and a wet fogger are not the same machine. The difference matters in a home, a clinic, or any room where electrics and soft furnishings have to stay.
What fogging is
Fogging turns a solution into a mist that fills a closed room. If the droplets are small enough, they stay in the air and reach gaps a cloth cannot. Our droplets are 5 to 50 microns. The finer ones stay in the air for up to 30 minutes.
Why a wet fogger is the wrong machine in a home
A basic wet fogger can wet surfaces and electronics. Wet residue is also why some rooms then need a rinse, and why papers, pictures and equipment are put at risk.
Wet fog can damage surfaces and electronics.
A cloth or a spray bottle cannot reach the grain of a wall or the air in a room.
Wiping alone can move contamination rather than treat it.
What the dry fog does
The Sanondaf machine we use heats and ionises the solution into a dry fog. The SanoFogger droplet is 5 microns. Electrics can stay on. The room does not need to be gas-sealed, and the fire alarm does not need to be switched off.
The amount of solution is set by the size of the room. We check for 100 parts per million hydrogen peroxide, a level that kills viruses, bacteria and mould spores. A treatment report and a certificate can be sent.
The second machine
The electrostatic sprayer is used with the fogger, not instead of it. It puts a charge on the solution so it clings to surfaces and reaches into the grain. The two together treat the air and the surfaces.
Dry fog for the air and the gaps.
Electrostatic spray for walls, floors and furnishings.
A patented oxidising disinfectant, NHS validated, at up to 99.9999%.
The solution biodegrades to oxygen and water.
People can return after an hour and a half on that disinfection service.
Where it is used
We use it in homes, schools, nurseries, GP surgeries, hospitals, care homes, laboratories, offices and food premises. Published work includes NHS England, NHS Scotland, the National Trust, Harper Adams University, Telford and Wrekin Council, Shropshire Council and Wolverhampton Council.
Summary
Ask whether a machine is a dry fog or a wet fogger. Wet fog can soak a room. The SanoFogger is a dry fog, used with an electrostatic sprayer, and a certificate can follow.
Where Dry Fog Is Used Across Shropshire
The dry-fog process is used in homes in Telford, Shrewsbury and across the county after illness, before a vulnerable person returns home, and as part of mould treatment. It is also used in schools, nurseries, care homes, GP surgeries, offices, vehicles and gyms. Because it leaves surfaces dry, rooms with electrics, books, paperwork and soft furnishings can be treated without damage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the dry fog safe for pets?
Yes, once the treatment period is over and the room is ventilated. Pets leave the room during treatment.
Will it leave a residue?
No. Surfaces are left dry.
Can it be used on soft furnishings?
Yes. Sofas, curtains, carpets and mattresses can be treated.
How is it different from a supermarket spray?
A spray treats only the surface it touches. The dry fog fills the room and reaches the air and surfaces that cannot be wiped.
Can you treat a whole house?
Yes. Rooms are treated in sequence.
Credentials
The team has worked in specialist cleaning and disinfection since around 2009, giving more than 17 years of experience. It uses NHS-validated technology and holds an upper-tier waste carrier licence for removing contaminated items. Every treatment is planned around the building and the people using it, and a record of the treatment can be provided afterwards for landlords, schools, care providers and businesses that need one for their files.
If you are unsure whether a dry fog is right for your building, the team can talk it through on the phone and explain what a treatment would involve.
Schools and care homes often book treatments in holidays or quiet periods to avoid disruption.
Specialist-Only
Shropshire Expert Cleaners LTD does not offer regular, standard, one-off or standard end-of-tenancy cleaning. Disinfection fogging is one of its specialist services, using NHS-validated technology, with experience dating back to around 2009.
Community
Since 2022 the company has given just over £30,000 of donations in items and services. During Covid, the team made frontline NHS workers' homes Covid-safe free of charge, leaving a card to thank them.
